OPULENT Edwardian BIRD OF PARADISE Plumes w Bird HAT Cocoa Velvet WIDE Oval BRIM
An opulent antique hat, with a scarce Bird Of Paradise! Dates to the’Teens era, post Edwardian. Quite grand, made of a rich chocolate “devil’s food cake” brown silk velvet with an extra wide eliptical oval brim, and in back is a large millinery buckle in fancy etched gold tone metal. The bird of paradise the real thing, gorgeous, with rich butter colored flank plumage that swoops upwards and is so fine and light. He has colorful reddish brown feathers on this head, and his throat is a shining and iridescent absinthe green, he has his original real beak ad two glass eyes. His stem is wired and wrapped in a thick metallic fancy French gilt braid. The crown is lined in an ombre taffeta in a lustrous pinkish color. The facing of the brim is also chocolate velvet. The bird and plumage are excellent, very well preserved and the hat is also very good. Brim measures 20 across, side to side and slopes slightly downward for a pleasing effect. Front to back is 14 1/2. Inside circumference is large, about 23 around, maybe a bit more. I show it placed on a full sized, adult millinery head. The head is not included.
