Antique Victorian Bonnet Hat Green Velvet August Petit Rue de la Paix Paris 1886. In good condition for its age with various signs of use and age detailed below. Rich shade of emerald green silk velvet. Lined in cream silk with drawstring. Lining gold stamped with maker information inside crown with various royal coats of arms. “Auguste Petit Modes & Coiffures 7 Rue de la Paix Paris 7″. A pencil inscription on inside reads bought in Paris January 1886 by Mrs. The velvet shows its age in various ways, but overall in quite presentable condition. Please excuse the dust – My camera magnifies it even though the hat was groomed! Some fading in small places on hat body and on ribbon ties. Bits of thread where front ribbon cluster was probably attached more securely to the hat. A hidden safety pin is holding the front ribbon in place along with the old thread. Pin holes in silk lining where hat pin was inserted repeatedly. Found at a Santa Fe, New Mexico estate.
