A hard to find antique millinery sewing machine, by WILLCOX AND GIBBS. This is a straw braid millinery sewing machine. These sewing machines were (and still are) used by milliners and hat makers to make hats of straw and chip braids. Seems to be in good working order, all parts move smoothly and the wheel turns easily with the needle (present) moving up and down, etc. Tension lever to adjust your thread tension. There is a special plate with steel spiked “teeth” to grip the braid and move the straw along as you sew. The steel plate under the needle specifically made small, to allow for room for the hat to grow in size as you sew the braids and for sewing round objects. Also can be sued to sew other items, of course. This is the head, no motor. It has a long metal clamp attached to the bottom as shown. Bronze circle seal in front with the Willcox and Gibbs logo and markings. Clean, solid, no cracks. A rare find and wonderful for the milliner or hat maker. Thank you for looking.
