This hat is from my own personal collection, which has been exhibited in Museums, Fashion Shows and has also appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. Sadly, lack of space is reluctantly forcing sale of part of my collection. This hat is stunning! Made by world renowned Chicago milliner Bes Ben – look him up on Google – who has made some of the most amazing millinery ever. Some of these can be seen in museums around the world. I only wish I could have been at one of his sales I have press photos of one of these events!! when he would open his doors at midnight and hats would be thrown – sailing above the heads of the crowd. He was eccentric but light years ahead of his time. This piece is exceptional. It is made of red leather in the shape of a love heart and sits on the back of the head like a Juliet Cap. It has a blush veil too. If you are a vintage wearer, then this is exactly what you need for Christmas cocktails (it isn’t that far away) or for seeing in the New Year. Or maybe you are a vintage bride who loves beautiful, unique pieces? You really need this in your life. Condition is Used – this is in very good vintage condition. The veil has one break but this is easily repairable by a good milliner and to be fair, when you have the hat on, it is really hard to spot. The last two images show this – the first of the two has the veil stretched out so that you can see the break clearly, the second of the two is with the pin removed. You can’t see it unless you really scrutinise! There is a label inside that says “Bes Ben”. You do not see Bes Bens for sale too often in the UK. This, believe me, is a bargain price. Please remember that this item is almost 80 years old and as such is a vintage item going towards antique. It may have an odour – which all vintage clothing acquires over time. I do not believe in shoving fabric conditioner sheets in with items – this does run the risk of damage on delicate garments and frankly, I much prefer the honest fragrance of a timeless piece rather than some hideous chemically induced smell. This item has had a previous life and at least two previous owners! If you want something that is pristine, then this item is not for you. Please examine the images carefully before committing yourself and if in any doubt, please ask questions. I do, in the interests of the environment, reuse clean packaging wherever possible. The carrier will normally be Hermes – I rarely use the post office unless for a small parcel.
