This is an original period hat from the Edwardian Era Ca. It is covered in four humongous blooming roses in shades of grey, cream, purple, brown, and wine. Each flower was lovingly handmade with a mix of silk and velvet petals. These are extremely hard to find on their own let alone all together on an actual antique hat! Hats like this are hard to find outside of a museum. Actually, there are a few similar hats in the collection of the MET museum in New York. Along with the beautiful roses are a plethora of antique leaves. Even these are a rare object to find, some are separated from their little wires but this is an easy fix with some glue that dries clear. Just a little dot on the wire will do the trick. There is also a large antique bow of floral watered silk. The fabric is worn with tearing in a lot of areas. This doesnt take away from the beauty. Actually, the fact that it shows some wear adds only adds charm and really lets you know how old this is. I love the colors present on the silk! They pair really well with the roses. The hat is not lined but has a grosgrain band around the circumference of the crown opening. The crown and top layer of the brim is made of chocolate brown satin and the under side of the brim is made of velvet. The velvet does have some wear to it. The brim measures 16.5 inches in diameter and the head opening measures 7 inches in diameter. Its had a happy home in my collection, but now its time for it to go to someone else for a while.
