A very scarce and lovely antique chapeau by one of the most famous of French modistes. An 1880s Bustle Era bonnet from Mme. Madame Virot was considered the leading milliner in Paris in the mid to late Victorian era, creating hats for the collections of Haute Couture fashion designers such as Charles Frederick Worth. A true Haute Mode chapeau, this diminutive bonnet has charming silk and cotton flowers along the brim’s facing, in pinks and soft pastels colors. Dark purple double faced satin streamers (may be replacements). Black sateen drawstring lining , inside is her label stamped in gold gilt on ivory silk, Mme. Virot, Paris, 12 Rue de la Paix. Shows some age but is a beautiful example and a great display for the collector. A real prize for any millinery collection. A spectacular gift for the special person in your life, or for yourself.
