This exquisite Victorian hat was probably made in France, circa 1860’s, maybe into 1870’s. The lovely hat is all handmade from beautiful lime green velvet, black net lace and gorgeous handmade flowers, with unusual crochet style basket weave decoration – sorry, I don’t know the technical term for this particular craft. There is also a Georgian style paste buckle, so you can see that the hat has lots of intricate detail and imaginative decoration. This gorgeous, one off millinery masterpiece was an expensive, highly prized fashion hat, even at the time of design and is from a private collection of antique hats and bonnets from the mid Victorian era.
