Vintage 1940s hat, an original French creation from legendary French millinery house of Caroline Reboux, Paris. Not a reproduction, adaption, or copy. This is a small chapeau, tiny in scale, a Victorian Revival style that also looks like something a Forest Fairy Queen would wear. It looks like an upside down flower bouquet, made of exquisite silk velvet petals in the softest muted colors of peach, pinks, heather purple, cream and rose tones. There are even realistic stems or branches, with purposed chinks in the stem coverings (done intentionally for effect, not a flaw). The hat is swathed in a fine and super light French silk veiling with tiny silk chenille puffs…. Completely hand sewn, of course. Silk label is CAROLINE REBOUX, 9 Avenue Matignon. This chapeau is so romantic, it makes a wonderful display in any room. Wear this to the next special event and get ready for lots of compliments. Fits a range of heads , and looks best tilted forward on the head. A beautiful and quite special hat for the millinery collector. I show the hat on 2 heads… One is a full sized, adult millinery head. The other is a smaller, 3/4 scale counter display. This hat was very expensive when new. Caroline Reboux was one of the most famous milliners of all time. Like her contemporary and rival, Madame Virot, she designed hats to be shown with the Victorian Haute Couture collections of Charles Frederick Worth. Hats with the genuine Reboux label can be found in the world’s best museums and private collections, and are quite rare to find today.
