A wonderful find for the collector of Carly Simon memorabilia. Carly Simon’s own hat, offered here for the first time. A fabulous Bohemian style, hand crochet heavy black silk cording in a skull cap style, with dangling wooden beads! When you turn your hat, the beads make a lovely sound. Carly Simon had generously donated her hat to be auctioned at the event, held at the Fashion Center in Manhattan. The award is called “The Milli”. I sat at the head table that day with Casey Bush, the Executive Director of The Headwear Information Bureau which began the awards in 1990. Kokin won the highest award that year. At the event, there was a fashion show of hats (of course) with famous models such as Broadway legend Gwen Verdon and Oscar nominated film actress Sylvia Miles. For entertainment, there was a delightful cabaret singer who did her rendition of “Put The Blame On Mame” from her Rita Hayworth tribute she was then performing in NYC. It was a wonderful event and I was lucky enough to bring this hat home with me. This daring cloche hat was designed by Eric Javits himself a winner of the Millinery Designer of The Year Award in 1991. While the paperwork is gone missing, I was there and can personally guarantee this is the real deal. I have never worn this hat and kept it packed away with care.
