A lovely antique Edwardian summer hat. Genuine antique, circa 1912, The Titanic and Downton Abbey years. A wide brim, with a deep cloche crown. Hand written paper note found with the hat says” Carrie Norton, my beach hat”. Made of a wonderful textured straw in a lovely faded French blue or sea blue color, with a vanilla cream colored (not yellowed) silk sash and a large millinery swirled cockade on the side. So fresh looking, perfect for the summer months, strolling along the beach, dress it up for afternoon tea, an Edwardian picnic or summer stroll in the park. The brim is quite wide with a pleasing “Pamela” or capeline oval shape, and on each side is a decorative fold or notch. EXTRA LARGE head size, the interior circumference is 24 1/2 around. Brim is 16″ side to side, 14 1/2″ front to back, crown is large and deep to accommodate the hair style of the times. Lined in black cotton sateen. In need of no further troms, looks great as it is, but of course you can dress this up with a lovely brooch or add an ostrich plume or two. NOTE that i had a difficult time getting the color of the blue straw to show correctly, it is a nice French blue, not aqua or greenish. I show it placed on a full sized, adult millinery head.
