Circa 1908, Late Victorian-Early Edwardian Era Gibson Girl Black Velvet Wide-Brim Hat, All Original, adorned with an exceptionally ornate & large Faceted Jet Glass Bead Stylized Buckle & Ostrich Plumes. Wide Velvet Ribbon around shallow crown, bordered on top & bottom with 6 rows each of jet glass & white seed beads. Silk interior label reads E. Schaffer Millinery, 230 Southern Ave. (Note no H in Pittsburgh which was added back in 1911, so easy to date the hat pre-1911). Measures at the brim approx. 14 1/4 X 15 1/4, interior circumf. Excellent Condition, small hole in the silk lining measuring 1/2 X 3/4 along with a handful of additional pinholes. One of the rectangular jet jewels at the buckle is chipped, essentially in half (see the close-up photo) & the thin wire is exposed here. Two tiny nicks on the spline of one plume.
