VTG 1940 Tuttle & Clark Ladies Hat Flat Top Sailor Straw Size 22.5 Blue Flower. Vintage ladies’ flat-top, straw hat. Based on the labels inside, I believe this hat dates to between 1938 (when the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed) and 1942 (when Tuttle & Clark closed their downtown location in Detroit). Khaki-brown in color, with a 1.5 wide black ribbon hatband and black netting. In addition, two blue plastic flower buttons adorn each side. Looped black fabric straps for under the chin or hair. The manufacturere’s tag reads : TUTTLE & CLARK. What can be seen of the union tag reads. What can be seen on the backside of the union tag reads. The back of the brim is curved downward. It is unknown if the hat was made that way, or if it was stored poorly and took on this new shape. There are holes / tears throughout the netting. This hat measures approximately 10 in diameter, brim to brim. The diameter of the opening is approximately 5.
