Original WWII era chestnut brown hat late 1930s/early 1940s. This hat is from my own personal collection, which has been exhibited in Museums, Fashion Shows and has also appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. Sadly, lack of space is reluctantly forcing sale of part of my collection. A beautiful hat with amazing ostrich feather – there is a hat very similar to this one in the Sears Catalogue for 1941 which suggests to me that the design was loosely copied (this still happens today) and our hat more than likely dates to 1940 or slightly before. I love the way it frames the face and the way it sits – it should be worn back on the head, with your victory curls showing! The way the ostrich feather dances in the breeze always grabs attention so this is a get noticed hat! The attention to detail is fab too – just look how the designer finished off the end of the feather quill at the back! Condition is Used – this is in very good vintage condition – there are no make up marks on the inner band which is nothing short of miraculous. Please note that this hat is quite soft and has not been stiffened. It appears very “floppy” when it is not being worn but trust me, it does hold shape when you are wearing it. The label is G Howard Hodge, 5th Avenue, New York. There is also a stamp. G Howard Hodge was one of the very best millinery designers ever and his hats are very sought after. Please remember that this item is almost 80 years old and as such is a vintage item going towards antique. It may have an odour – which all vintage clothing acquires over time. I do not believe in shoving fabric conditioner sheets in with items – this does run the risk of damage on delicate garments and frankly, I much prefer the honest fragrance of a timeless piece rather than some hideous chemically induced smell. This item has had a previous life and at least two previous owners! If you want something that is pristine, then this item is not for you. Please examine the images carefully before committing yourself and if in any doubt, please ask questions. I do, in the interests of the environment, reuse clean packaging wherever possible.
