Original late 1930s/Early 1940s WWII Tilt Topper in Shiny Navy Straw with the most gorgeous veil. This hat is from my own personal collection, which has been exhibited in Museums, Fashion Shows and has also appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. Sadly, lack of space is reluctantly forcing sale of part of my collection. This is an American hat and is stunning. It is a canolier type of hat with an upturned brim and made in beautiful fine shiny straw. This is a show stopper and no mistake! It is trimmed around the crown and edge of the brim with red grosgrain ribbon and the veil is a fine French silk with tiny red chenille dots on it. These hats are one size fits all – and are really flattering to all face shapes and hair colouring. Condition is Used – this is in very good vintage condition – however, there a small area of make up discolouration on the inner band, which cannot be seen when the hat is being worn. The veil has suffered some breaks but only one one side? Perhaps she was leaning too far into her beau! You could fix this is you wish, replace it I hate myself for even suggesting that one! Or roll with it as is. To be fair it is really hard to find veils in pristine condition. There is a designer label present which reads “Marche Hat, New York” and there is also (unsurprisingly) a label for New York Creations with a size label of 22 1/2 – which I don’t understand as this is a tilt topper! Please remember that this item is almost 80 years old and as such is a vintage item going towards antique. It may have an odour – which all vintage clothing acquires over time. I do not believe in shoving fabric conditioner sheets in with items – this does run the risk of damage on delicate garments and frankly, I much prefer the honest fragrance of a timeless piece rather than some hideous chemically induced smell. This item has had a previous life and at least two previous owners! If you want something that is pristine, then this item is not for you. Please examine the images carefully before committing yourself and if in any doubt, please ask questions. I do, in the interests of the environment, reuse clean packaging wherever possible. The carrier will normally be Hermes – I rarely use the post office unless for a small parcel.
