Gorgeous antique hat by E. From the Edwardian era. The brim has black velvet trim and artisan woven fine rattan/straw. The “vented” effect in the crown and the airy woven band suggests it was meant for summertime. Three dimensional small balls on the underside of the brim. Top section has thin metal supports with fine black mesh. Some of the mesh has tiny openings and a few small tears that can be repaired. The lining of the top section is a thick silk. Inscribed in gold lettering: E. The stiff brim extends 4 inches, a velvet trim on top and bottom of the edge. 20-21 inches circumference around the head opening. Top section is 3-1/2 inches high. Total of 17-1/2 inches across. I consider this to be a collector’s item, rather than a hat to be worn often. Although one could certainly wear it.
