HUGE 1902 Ostrich Plumes HAT Pink Peach Cream Edwardian Silk Bow Flowers Platter
A MASSIVE and huge, rare style, genuine antique hat from the turn of the century, Belle Epoque and Gibson girl era, circa 1900 to 1903. Opulent frilly and thick ostrich plumes make a real statement with an extra fluffy ivory white plume, vibrant magenta pink and a soft p-ale peachy-tan plume that drape and cascade over the front of the hat when worn. The hat is a wide clam shell shaped platter made of a horsehair millinery braid (faux) in dark black. In back is a large and very pretty French silk ribbon pleated bow. Fully lined with a silk drawstring liner. Faced with gossamer fine black silk maline net, velvet piping and black silk satin, and a large black ostrich plume flower with a sweet silk peony flower in the center. The rhinestone buckle was in the box, not sure where it goes but it is included. A beautiful hat for your collection. Clean and in well preserved condition. There are two extra long, original black glass hat pins included. This hat was worn to the back of the head and perched atop a big piled up hair do of the time. Very “Gay Nineties” and early Edwardian. Small shallow crown as was the style. A rare piece to fill in your time line for the millinery collector. Thank you for looking!
