This is a really exciting find for me — two Edwardian Hats in one day. I haven’t been able to offer two in five years. They’re very hard to find these days — particularly in original condition with the lining intact. This one’s brown velvet with pink ostrich feathers and framed in with a brown satin at the brim and crown. The lining is silk and it’s from a shop in Asheville, NC named Palais Royal. You get a little history with this listing. Palais Royal was one of a number of Jewish owned businesses on South Main (later to be renamed Biltmore Street) in the early part of the 20th Century. Palais Royal shows up in city records as early as 1901. That fits right in with the period of this hat. If you search Palais Royal Ashville you’ll get a fascinating history of the Jewish businesses in the city. There’s a black plastic & jet (I think) doo dad on one side that I’m not sure shouldn’t be re-fastened. This is the first of the two hats I’ll be offering. I can only say that someone must have love cherished these hats for them to have survived in this kind of condition. I’m taking offers on these. They’ve become very hard to find.
