Rose Valois designed Calot hat from the 1930s. Calot hats are quite a rarity. This beautiful and rare example is a reproduction piece for Best & Co. Transport in those days was too slow to meet the immediate demand for French hats. This glorious example is constructed in a soft black suede fabric and is all about the cut, it shouts Pierrot, like a Juliette cap with asymmetric emphasis. The fabric is ribbed and intricately seam stitched to ooze Deco styling. A Bakelite hat flash sits to the back, it is in the form of a leaf (there is a pin hole in the fabric where this has been pinned so it needs to remain in place). The original lining and two milliners label sit within. Of an average ladies head size, approx. A stunning little thirties hat, it just needs that elegant bias cut dress!
