A very important hat, and one that rarely comes to market. This is the earliest of his hats I have come across “in person” in my 40 years of collecting. This daring hat dates to 1939 and is made of a supple sea blue natural straw, artistically sculpted and shaped to sort of croissant, inter laced with lush French silk jersey drapes in soft cream color. Dramatic dark blue French veiling in a large pattern, so the hat can be worn with or without the veil which attaches with 2 matching straw hatpins. Lined in sheer blue silk crepe. Wear this at a sharp tilted angle. Label is Bes-Ben Chicago. If you are a serious collector of millinery and hats, this is a once in a lifetime chance to own one of Bes Bens early works.
