This special hat is from 1990; last worn about 1997, then stored. Embellishments have been painstakingly cleaned with tiny instruments and tools, like soft brushes. It is very finely woven straw as the photos show. Photo 5 has light behind it so that its structure can be seen. The flowers appear to be hand-colored & shaped using paper & fine wire. The ribbon is high quality. The lace is at least as old as the hat, if not older. Pearl-like pins can be removed if desired. It looks pretty either way. There is no head (inside) band which often determines a specific size. According to the chart this hat falls into the category of Large to Extra-Large, depending entirely on where you want it to fall in front, and how much hair you have. Photo 7 shows the hat on a mannequin head (w/o hair) measuring exactly 21 3/8. It will be too big for a size Small – Medium unless you have thick hair or wear your hair piled up underneath the hat. Measuring your head, be sure to measure around the front just clearing the top of your ears. Measuring may help you determine your hat size but how far down on your forehead you want it to lay, and volume of hair should be considered.
