Victorian 1890’s Black Straw Tilt Hat
This hat is from the gay nineties. The photos and flash makes it look worse than it is. Its a wonder this hat has survived this long. It was found in a suitcase with other Victorian dresses. The photos reflect some brown areas but it is the thread under the black straw. It is in fragile condition and the netting is very fragile. Even though fragile it is still very wearable. The flowers are old but hard to tell if they are original to the hat. The netting on the hat appears to be intact with some stress areas. The outer band is straw and was probably smashed in the suitcase. The inner lining is black cotton or a mixture of black cotton and silk with a drawstring and there is a leather “guide” on the back of the hat which sits on the crown. You might want to reshape the wiring very carefully. The entire hat is black. There is one area of about an inch where the straw is fraying. It measures front to back 14-1/2″, side to side 10″ and the circumference of the crown is 8″ x 5″ as is. Please look at the photos carefully and will answer any questions that I can. This hat reminds me of a hat Betty Grable wore in one of her old Victorian movies. The item “Victorian 1890’s Black Straw Tilt Hat” is in sale since Monday, March 11, 2019.
