Original vintage 1930s/1940s WWII Pancake With Drape. This hat is from my own personal collection, which has been exhibited in Museums, Fashion Shows and has also appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. Sadly, lack of space is reluctantly forcing sale of part of my collection. These are the most beautiful styles of hat to emerge from the late 1930s/early 1940s. I love that the designers New York Creations who else? Lol have used red and green (complimentary colours) together which really makes this hat sing! This also makes it quite unique – I’ve not seen another like it! I have several of these – and believe me, they are really hard to get hold of these days in such good condition. The “pancake” is made of two types of fabric – I have no idea what the red one is only that it is textured and the drape – which can be worn tucked under the rim of the hat or as a scarf across the throat and over one shoulder or several other ways – is (I think) a fine jersey. This is a one size fits all hat as it is meant to perch on the head at a jaunty angle. Condition is Used – this is in good vintage condition – there are minimal make up marks inside the hat but the green jersey has got some marks on it. I’ve worn this and have not been in the least bit bothered by the marks but if you are , then you could always attempt a localised wash but I have no idea if this would be a good idea or not. That’s for you to decide! As mentioned, this is designed by New York Creations with a further label for Saks, 5th Avenue – a very upscale department store. There is also a size label present for 22 although I have no idea why as it it meant to perch! Please remember that this item is almost 80 years old and as such is a vintage item going towards antique. It may have an odour – which all vintage clothing acquires over time. I do not believe in shoving fabric conditioner sheets in with items – this does run the risk of damage on delicate garments and frankly, I much prefer the honest fragrance of a timeless piece rather than some hideous chemically induced smell. This item has had a previous life and at least two previous owners! If you want something that is pristine, then this item is not for you. Please examine the images carefully before committing yourself and if in any doubt, please ask questions. I do, in the interests of the environment, reuse clean packaging wherever possible. The carrier will normally be Hermes – I rarely use the post office unless for a small parcel.
