1940s Elegant Purple Platter Hat with Magenta Veil by Ethel Atlkins Boston #1425. An elegant 1940s purple woven rayon wide brim platter hat decorated with magenta and white silk flowers and faux pearls on top, and with a magenta French silk veil. The veil is lovely and very fine, with tiny squares scattered in a pattern in the net. The hat has a wide brin and a very flattened crown, and underneath the rounded edge brim is a hat holder with flexible side wings edged in the same purple velvet ribbon that falls from underneath the brim in a bow at the back of the hat. The hat will fit most. The designer label is Ethel Atkins, a high end milliner that in 1950 moved from original address where her shop opened in 1935 at 16 Arlington Avenue in Boston to a new location downtown, dating this hat to the 1940s. There were no major issues detected on the hat. The hat is beautiful and the delicate silk veil appears undamaged and is still soft and supple. The hat appears clean inside and out. However, this is a vintage hat that is at least 70 years old, so there may be some minor signs of age related wear that I did not notice or record.
