A genuine antique, 1910 French headdress from the Paris stage. An opulent Crown or courrone. Looks like it came right off the stage of “The Firebird”, from the Ballet Russes! The headdress is sturdy, made of gathered and ruched black velvet and silk faille, with a heavily encrusted band crown of gold bullion, a French metallic passementerie braid with glittering coppery gold glass beads. Each side has a long black silk tassel. Fully lined, it has structure. From the estate of a woman who was a performer on the stage in Paris in the WWI era. A true Art Nouveau theatrical costume piece, with an Oriental or Russian influence…. I can see Nijinsky wearing this one! This has a bit of weight to it, and is not flimsy or light. Beautiful to wear or to display in a lighted case. Very nice, and a scarce find. I show the hat on a full sized millinery head, the head is not included.
