VTG WOMENS CASABLANCA HAT TRUE 1940s Wide Brim Taupe Brown Fur Felt Fedora + Kid
This is a FABULOUS 1940s hat, a rare style very similar to the one worn by Ingrid Bergman in the last scene (at the airport) in the greatest of American films, CASABLANCA (1942). My favorite movie can you tell? So I’ve held on to this lovely, poignant hat for a long time. Hand-crafted millinery with hand-stitching, it isnt an exact copy but I’ve never seen one closer, the crown is taller on this hat than the one in the movie. Aged fur felt is Taupe with a darker gently pleated band of the softest kid suede leather. Design is slouchy, slightly asymmetrical, looking great tilted over an eye–Ingrid B. /Ilse Lund style– or worn back on the head. Label reads Baron’s, Madison–Baron’s was a small department store, sadly long gone, located on the old Capitol Square downtown Madison WI. Union label reads: Mfd. Under fair labor standards, Consumer’s Protection Label, New York Creation 22, X Z. 22 is probably the size. No idea what “X Z” means. Inside the crown is stamped “AGED Fur Bodies by LEE”. What a find this is for someone, this very special hat out of the 1940s. Please see photos, read everything and let me know if you have questions.
