Vintage / Antique / Original WOMEN’S STRAW HAT from the turn of the 19th C / Edwardian Era. This is an exquisite straw hat woven possibly crocheted?? to create shape and design of the hat. The supportive frame is millinery wire, wrapped in straw, and integrated into the design of the hat. This is not a straw woven on a machine then attached to a wire frame. This straw was fabricated to create the shape and design of the hat. The craftsmanship is very impressive. The straw is still pliable enough to make minor adjustments to the wire frame. The straw is not brittle. There is a 2 fabric ruffle flounce on the edge of the brim. I would imaging the hat had more trimming on it at some point. The headsize opening is small and is meant to sit perched on a gibson’ style hair-do. There are 2 areas of damage to the straw on the side bands.
