A wonderful antique hat, from the Edwardian to WWI era, 1912 to 1920. Downton Abbey era for sure! Made of a sturdy black straw braid, with an asymmetrical upturned brim and a deep cloche crown. The brim is wrapped in gorgeous Ostrich plumes, very thick and frilly and fluffy, (many plumes together) in a antique white color. On the side/back is a huge French silk satin ruffled bow, with a hand carved bone brooch in the center. Maker’s millinery label is Simpson Crawford, 6th Avenue, NY. A little too big on my millinery head, it should be worn on the head with the proper hair style. Inner circumference is 23 around.
