He initially supplied custom made hats to Chandra and to Saks 5th Avenue, but the costs involved in hand making hats caused him to turn to more cost effective production methods. During the 60s, he supplied hats to fashion houses such as Oscar de la Renta and Pauline Trigere and other Seventh Avenue design houses, but opened “Frank Olive’s World” in 1971 with the goal of wider distribution. Frank Olive produced hats under four different labels as well as a budget line under a fifth label, but the label on this hat, “From My Private Collection”, was his most expensive line, and I believe that hats with this label were “one of a kind” unique models.
