The sixties vibe is completely expressed through the colors: harvest gold, avocado green, brick red, nasturtium orange, wheat, and soft teal, in a pattern of leaves, chrysanthemums and small flowers on an ivory linen background. This flocked material was called “carpetbag” back in the day. Your fall and winter wardrobe won’t be complete without it. It perfectly offsets the dowager vibes of a winter coat. We tried it on. We have large-ish skulls and we like how it fits. The vintage tag says it’s a size 10. It’s lined in clean black taffeta with a grosgrain ribbon at the attachment to the brim. It has a scrunchy/crushy top and a solid brim with a jaunty angle. It’s a winner. It’s from Arlington Hats, with a maker’s tag, #597. The department store price tag reads Allied. The hat has a little bit of foxing, pictured, on the linen from the decades of lying in wait for you in its hatbox in the closet. Its pretty well camouflaged by the design.
