Perfect vintage summer hat from the late 40s or 50s. By Josephine Tripoli of New York City. Custom made, the hat appears to have never been worn. The straw has a sheen. Pretty soft dusty rose velvet ribbon band with a large bow in the back. An elastic chin string is attached. Appears to be unworn. Inner rim is 21 inches. Brim is 3-3/4 inches deep in front, 6-1/2 inches deep on the sides, 3-3/4 inches deep at the back. Top is 3-1/4 inches high at the highest point. Josephine Tripoli was a well known maker of hats. She opened Josephine Tripoli Millinery in the late 1930s and created custom hats for private and corporate clients from her shop at 237 East 59th Street. She made the first female pilot’s hat for commercial airline use, and worked on costume hats for movies and advertising.
